THE NEED FOR SELF LOVE

source

Sometime in August, I came across a very powerful sermon by Myles Munroe (MHSRIP). The title of the sermon was “the myth of singleness”. It talks about how society tells us we are incomplete if we are not married and how God desires that we remain single (separate, unique and whole) and that it is possible to be single but not alone.

Let me not start preaching because I can go on and on, simply because I loved the sermon so much and what I learnt I would love to share with every woman out there. But that is a story for another day.

So one thing that was emphasized in that sermon is the fact that the most important relationship in life is intrapersonal and not interpersonal and that is what I want to dwell on.

How much do you love yourself????? How much do you know yourself??

How much you love yourself reflects on the outside and affects how you carry yourself and sometimes even the choices and decisions you make.

Love is  a human basic need, I mean we all want to love and be loved but how much someone loves you is somehow dependent on how much you love yourself.

If you don’t love yourself why should someone love you? If you hate your body, hate your hair, hate your nose, hate your personality, why do you expect someone else to love it? If you can’t live with yourself why should someone live with you?

Love yourself, take care of yourself. You are beautiful and unique, there will never be another YOU. Celebrate your uniqueness and quit trying to be someone else. Acknowledge that you are the best of you that God has. Love yourself because God loves you. Your worth is beyond the clothes you wear, it’s beyond the number of likes you get on facebook. You are God’s treasure, you are valuable to him. Begin to see your value.

When you understand who you are, and how important you are, people will see it through you and will treat you as such. With the consciousness of the beauty within you, you will then be able to have meaningful interpersonal relationships because the more VALUE you add to yourself, the more value you will add to someone’s life.

You are God’s best. Believe it. Accept it and live that way.

AFRICAN THREADING

I recently watched a VIDEO of Nyla Helene on how to achieve a 'heat less blow out' on natural hair by using thread and i decided to try it out.

INSPIRATION ; Nyla Helene

I started out with an old braid out which i separated into small sections, i moisturized and combed each section and went on to thread it. I went to bed with threaded hair covered in a satin bonnet.
The next morning i removed the thread, combed my hair and i had my heat less blow out.

I really enjoyed having stretched hair without having to worry about heat damage and i think i will be doing alot of african threading.
Have you tried the african threading???????? How did you like it????

BEING A NATURAL BRIDE'S MAID.

In june this year, one of my beautiful friends Inonge, asked me to be one of her bride’s maids. I was more than excited, you ask why???????? This was the first time a friend of mine was asking me to be a bride’s maid. *Feeling proud*
Being a bride’s maid means routine dancing, pretty dresses, hot shoes etc but I was not worried about all that, I was more concerned about what I would do with my hair. Deep down my heart I wanted to wear my fro to that wedding but I knew it was up to the bride to decide how my hair should look on that day. I hoped and hoped that she would let me wear my hair natural.
Well, Inonge had 6 bride’s maids in total and guess what???? She asked us to pair up and choose 3 hairstyles , one for each pair.
The first pair chose to weave their hair, the second pair chose to do braids (masai) and the third pair (me and my partner in crime Tints) chose to wear our hair natural.  *sigh* knowing that i was allowed to wear my hair was exciting but then came the choosing of a style that would work for both me and Tints.

My favourite Teyona Paris updo wouldn't work for both of us because of the difference in lengths. I had to come up with something and well i settled for the 'good old bantu knot out', simply because it has never disappointed me and it looks great on any length.
I believe pictures speak louder than words, so sit back, relax and enjoy……

we the natural sisters.*wink wink*

masai, need i mention i styled their braids?

MY STYLE: HALF UP HALF DOWN

HOW I ACHIEVED THE STYLE:

Started out with a chunky twist out which was done on slightly damp hair.
I pinned the sides of the hair backwards and made a pampadour in front.
The yellow flower was added to accessorize.
I hope you like it.

PRODUCTS DO NOT GROW YOUR HAIR.

More and more people are being drawn to natural hair and I love that. However, people really haven’t learnt a thing about hair care and healthy hair practices.

The popular question is “Your hair is so long, what products do you use?”

Half the time I don’t know how to answer that question because I do not have this MAGICAL product that everyone is expecting me to tell them about.

The other day I was checking the Zed hair request facebook page, Fatima had put up a picture of a girl with beautiful long natural hair and one of the comments was “I want that hair, what products does she use?”

There are so many people still thinking that in order to grow long hair, you need to use a certain product and they think you are hiding ‘the big secret’ whenever you tell them products do not grow your hair.

I am not against products, infact they are necessary for healthy hair but are only effective with the right techniques, in a nutshell healthy hair practices top it all. You can have all the best products in the world, but if you do not know how to handle your hair, it will not grow.

Stop focusing on new products and start paying attention to how well you treat your hair, it will thank you for it.
