MY STYLE- MY FAV UPDO

This by far is my favourite updo. I love it coz its easy to do and i can wear it anywhere.
Do you want to know how i created this style? let me know in the comments below.

YOUR WEAVE SHOULD NEVER COME BEFORE YOUR HAIR!!!!!!!!

I came across this picture on tumblr or facebook, i can't really remember, but i was not so happy to see this. I mean, who does that????????????
Even before i knew a thing about proper hair care i never kept my weaves beyond 2months, not to talk about 6. Infact even if i wanted to keep it for that long i wouldn't, because then i would die from all the itching. Gosh, weaves can really make your scalp itch like crazy. I haven't forgotten the feeling.
Ladies please, lets take care of our hair.
*shaking my head*

PROTECTIVE STYLING - ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW.

Protective styling is any kind of styling that tucks the ends of your hair away. Now you all know that the ends of your hair are the oldest parts of your hair, and as such, are prone to breakage. Protective styles protect the ends of your hair from weather elements such as the wind, and too much sunlight, from mechanical damage such as excessive combing/brushing and just any other things that can cause your hair to tear and break.

Protective styles include weaves, twists, braids, buns, roll tuckn’pin updo’s etc.

BENEFITS OF PROTECTIVE STYLING:

  • ·         It aids in length retention/hair growth

  • ·         It protects your hair

  • ·         It gives your hair a break from daily styling

  • ·         Its low maintenance

  • ·         It saves time

Now I know most of you ladies probably wear weaves, braids etc 90% of the time and you wonder why your hair is not growing.

IT IS NOT A PROPER PROTECTIVE STYLE IF:

You neglect your hair while in protective style

This is the common tend for most ladies. If as long as you have those braids/weave you don’t wash, condition or moisturise your real hair in any way, you won’t see any difference in the growth of your hair. Your hair will get so dry and weak and will definitely break as you take down the braids/weave.

The braids are too tight or too small.

You will not end up with beautiful voluminous hair, you will end up with traction alopecia.
I know the micro braids (masai) look hot and neat, but hey, I love my hair way too much to do that.

You keep the style in for too long.

The maximum time I’d recommend for any particular style is 4weeks. The longer you keep the style in, the more tangled it will get and this can cause breakage.

Your hair stylist has no clue about healthy hair practices.

Sometime in 2012 I  went to a certain salon to have my hair braided In fish-tail. After the hairdresser finished plaiting, she got a scissors and started cutting bits of my hair to make the style look neat. I know she is not the only hairdresser who does that, lol. Explain to them what you are trying to achieve with the protective style before they go up in your hair and give you a weird trim. Oh yes, by the time I took down that ‘mukule’ my hair was uneven all round.

You are styling your hair excessively.
I love how creative ladies have become when it comes to styling their braids. I see everyone rocking a chi high bun like this. And I must say it looks elegant. Just make sure you not pulling too much on your hair as you style your braids, as this can lead to hair loss.

DO YOU WEAR PROTECTIVE STYLES????? HOW DO YOU CARE FOR YOUR HAIR WHILE WEARING PROTECTIVE STYLES??

MEET HOUSE OF T'WALE.

INTRODUCTION.

House of T'wale is a Lifestyle brand. How you live, carry yourself, dress and express yourself, that's T'wale! As a brand we specialise in hand crafted garments, print inspired clothing, styling and image consulting.
At the head of this brand are two Creative Directors, Miss Mirriam Mwanza and Miss Lisa Muya, both Zambian Nationals who have been based abroad and managed to see how style can mix beyond boarders.
Miss Mwanza and Miss Muya
Together we are the Minds behind the brand, we conceptualise the style, Design, create and help translate the look to fit the clients personality.

WHY THE NAME T'WALE?

T'wale means "I Salute" or "Respect". The term is of West African Origin, a Complementary term used to acknowledge uniqueness.
As House of T'wale we aim to keep our identity African but not limited to a Local Zambian name so as to appeal to any other national.
T'wale as a term translates with our aim, We Salute,Respect, and Seek to offer you Clothing and a Lifestyle that translates just That.

HOW DID H.O.T COME UP?

The brand, House Of T'wale started as a dream we had from our days in High school, this was sparked by our love of innovative fashion and an eye for quality, despite Both having majored in different fields of study in University, our Passion, Creativity and drive led us to pursue this path. This dream has since been adopted and grown into a business concept to fill the current gap in the Zambian market which sees a lot of international brands flooding the market.

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR CLOTHING LINE?

The first and most important inspiration is from God. We never do anything without God and He keeps us grounded as House Of T'wale.
As young people exposed to diversity, we noticed a lot of people do not portray who they are through their dress sense. When you meet someone for the first time, their outlook tells you a brief story already of who they are. Many people have been misjudged because of how they dress, Perception unfortunately does count.
As proud Africans, T'wale wants to preserve our heritage by using a unifying factor in this case the "African print" or "Chitenge" in our clothing to show our identity but still remain relevant in terms of trend and individual style.

FUTURE GOALS?

Our goal is for House Of T'wale to be a household name and make our mark beyond boarders.

RELAXED HAIR STYLE ICON - FATIMA

Introduce yourself:

I am Fatima, a young Zambian blogger getting into healthy living through eating right and working out. I am into african fashion but my number one obsession is hair care.

How long have you been growing your hair????

my hair 2011
I had shoulder length hair with no effort but bad hair decisions which include tight braids, bad experiences with hair stylists and hair coloring damaged my hair so bad within a short period of time. That was my turning point. I promised myself that I would learn to take care of my own hair and I never turned back. I have been on my hair journey for 3yrs now filled with 10,000 setbacks but so far so great.

What is your weekly/monthly hair care routine?

I am big on low manipulation. It has been one of the major factors that have helped me progress. So protective styles 95% of the time.
I pre-poo once a week, another vital part of my regimen, using a mixture of conditioner, oils and
my hair 2012
honey. I shampoo after that using a sulfate free shampoo then deep condition with a similar mixture to my pre-poo.  I usually blow dry on very low heat after air drying till my hair is almost completely dry. I moisturize and seal every day. I clarify my hair every 6 weeks or so.

How often do you relax your hair? What is your staple relaxer?

I texlax rather than relax my hair to maintain texture and thickness. I do this every 10-12wks. No staple relaxer yet, but been using organic root stimulator olive oil of late.

Any advice to the people that want to grow long healthy relaxed hair?

well, am all about healthy hair regardless of whether ones natural or relaxed. The difference only comes in when it comes to styling as relaxed hair doesn’t shrink. But I’d advice people to be open to making hair care a part of their routine. Often I get people telling me they have tried everything but their hair 'won’t grow'. Whenever I ask if they have a regimen, the answer is no. So firstly one has to put up a regimen. Not a complex one but one that could be easy to comply to and very important; be consistent. The rest will fall into place. Also to read blogs (both natural can relaxed). Learn a lot from other people’s experiences.

Where can we find you?????
